Frequently asked questions

Everything renters ask us most.

Browsing & booking

Is it free to browse and search for a home?

Yes. Browsing listings, filtering, and using the search bar costs nothing — you only pay when you book an inspection or move forward with a lease.

What does the inspection fee cover?

A small, one-time fee to book a viewing slot with the property. It's shown upfront on every listing before you book, and it's separate from your rent, caution fee, or agency fee.

Can I search in plain language instead of using filters?

Yes — the search bar on the homepage understands natural descriptions like "2 bedroom in Lekki under 2 million, furnished" and turns that into the right filters automatically.

Trust & verification

What does "Verified" actually mean on a listing?

Our team checks the listing details and the landlord's identity before it's marked Verified — it isn't a self-reported badge landlords set themselves.

Do I get the landlord's phone number directly?

No — landlord contact details are held securely by Dwella. You connect with the property by booking an inspection, which keeps the process trackable and protects both sides.

Payments

How do payments work?

Payments run through Paystack, so you're never paying cash to a stranger. Depending on the listing, you can pay rent annually or on a 6-month plan (a small convenience premium applies to the 6-month option).

What's a caution fee?

A refundable deposit some landlords require, shown as a number of months' rent on the listing before you book — it's disclosed upfront, not added as a surprise later.

Can I save up for rent inside the app?

Yes — tenants can set a savings goal toward their next rent payment and track progress from their dashboard.

After you move in

Something's broken in my apartment — what do I do?

Submit a maintenance request from your tenant dashboard. It goes straight to your landlord, and you can track its status until it's resolved.

I have a problem that support needs to step in on — who do I contact?

Reach the team from the Help Center or Contact links in the footer — every account is tied to a real support channel, not just a form that disappears.

Campus housing

What is Dwella Campus / Nest?

A university-scoped version of Dwella for student housing — verified rooms near campus, roommate matching, and (where a school participates) parent/guarantor sign-off, all on the same secure infrastructure as the main platform.
